Dr. Daniel Gallegher
Understanding and predicting the movement of chemical in the environment is necessary to manage
and remediate environmental contamination. These analyses are performed using a variety of
numerical modeling, field monitoring, statistical, and spatial analysis methods.
Recent research has focused on the movement of contaminated ground water into coastal waters
of the Chesapeake Bay. Studies have been conducted evaluating pesticide, coliform, and nutrient
transport. Other research areas include the use of geographic information systems to evaluate
impacts of land use on surface and ground water quality, modeling the removal of trace metals in
water treatment, and improved monitoring strategies for water quality in distribution systems.
